The recognitions are tributes and affirmations to the professionalism and work ethic with which Dr. Darren W. Soong, M.D. operates.

Dr. Soong, a certified Lap-Band system surgeon, is a partner and surgeon with the Gastric Band Institute of Nevada where he currently operates with the latest technology in Gastric Band Surgery. Along with Dr. James D. Atkinson, his partner, they have performed more Gastric Band surgeries than all other bariatric practices in Nevada combined.

Prior to working at the Gastric Band Institute, Dr. Soong was one of the senior partners in the largest and busiest general surgery practices in Las Vegas from 1995–2006. There he specialized in multiple types of surgeries including general, advanced laparoscopic, burn, advanced wound care, trauma, and peripheral nerve surgery.

Well versed in the medical industry, Dr. Soong is a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is also an assistant clinical professor at the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine, Department of Surgery and a member of the American Medical Association, Clark County Medical Society, Nevada State Medical Association, American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the American Society of Bariatric Physicians.

A native of Hawai’i, Dr. Soong graduated from UCLA in 1985 with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, and from the University of Hawai’i in 1990 with his M.D. Dr. Soong completed his residency at the University Of Nevada School Of Medicine in 1995 where he was promoted to Chief Resident. Dr. Soong has since remained a resident of Las Vegas where he lives with his wife and twin daughters.
