Eufrocino C. Martinez, M.D.
Dr. Martinez received his medical degree at the University of Tomas in Manila, Philippines. He continued his education and training in surgery at Martin Luther King-Charles R. Drew Los Angeles County Medical Center in Los Angeles from 1979 to 1984 where he was recognized for most outstanding Resident and Chief Administration Resident. Dr. Martinez entered private practice in 1984 in general surgery and, at the same time, was part time attending surgeon at Martin Luther King-Charles R. Drew Los Angeles County Medical Center.
Dr. Martinez now specializes in bariatric surgery for the treatment of morbid obesity. Dr. Martinez was Director of Surgical Endoscopy at Martin Luther King-Charles R. Drew Los Angeles County Medical Center. He has taught many residents the art of surgical endoscopy. He has also practiced at both Martin Luther King-Charles R. Drew Los Angeles County Medical Center and California Hospital Medical Center as a trauma surgeon.
As a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity, he has extensive experience in laparoscopic bariatric surgery. Performing more than 1,000 bariatric surgeries, along with educating other bariatric surgeons, he is considered an expert in his field. He works with many bariatric programs including oBand, Surgilite and Gastric Banding Medical Group. As the Medical Director of New Reflections Surgical Weight Loss Program in Norwalk, California, Dr. Martinez has only one goal in mind for his patients and that is to provide them with the best tool possible to resolve the complications caused by the disease of morbid obesity. By establishing an extensive patient referral base, new patients coming to him for the first time know they will be treated with the same dignity and compassion with which he treats all of his patients. Dr. Martinez performs most of his procedures laparoscopically including the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, laparoscopic adjustable band (LAP BAND), gastric sleeve and revisions for bariatric patients who have regained their weight following previous weight loss surgery. He is one of a few surgeons who performs an endoscopic revisional procedure known as the Stomaphy X for bariatric patients
Dr. Martinez performs all his own endoscopies and colonoscopies, and treats other gastro-intestinal problems like Esophogeal Reflux Disease (GERD) with a new device called EsophyX. He is constantly adding more procedures to this practice base as he studies and learns new surgical procedures when clinical trials are completed which will improve the quality of life of his patients. Dr. Martinez maintains a program size which he can manage by himself so that every one of his patients will be followed by him and receives the personal care he feels they deserve.
